Air Fryer Salmon Recipe

Prep time5 minutes
Cook time8–10 minutes
Total time15 minutes
Servings2 servings

Ingredients

For the Salmon:

  • 2 salmon fillets (approx. 6 oz each), skin-on, of even thickness
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (adds a lovely color and subtle smokiness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the Lemon Garlic Herb Butter Finish:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter , melted
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 1 clove garlic , minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill or parsley , finely chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prep the Air Fryer

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 to 5 minutes. A hot air fryer is the secret to getting that gorgeous restaurant-style crust on the salmon without overcooking the inside.

Step 2: Prepare the Salmon Fillets

  1. Pat the salmon fillets completely dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is essential for achieving a crisp texture rather than a steamed one. Rub all sides of each fillet evenly with the olive oil.

Step 3: Mix the Seasoning Blend

  1. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture generously over the flesh side of each salmon fillet, pressing it gently into the surface so it adheres well.

Step 4: Air Fry to Perfection

  1. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with a high-smoke-point oil spray (avoid aerosol cooking sprays containing propellants, which can damage non-stick coatings). Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the basket, leaving a little space between them for air circulation.
  2. Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 8 to 10 minutes . The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness of your fillets:
  3. Thin fillets (approx. 1/2 inch): 7–8 minutes
  4. Standard fillets (approx. 1 inch): 9–10 minutes
  5. Thick-cut center-cut fillets: 11–12 minutes
  6. The salmon is done when it easily flakes with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 135°F to 140°F (it will continue to rise slightly after removing from the heat).

Step 5: Whisk the Herb Butter Finish

  1. While the salmon is cooking, whisk together the melted unsalted butter, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, and chopped fresh herbs in a small mixing bowl.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  1. Transfer the warm air-fried salmon to serving plates. Drizzle the vibrant lemon garlic herb butter generously over the top of each fillet. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
